Collaboration with University of the People

University of the People is the world’s first tuition-free online university with over 700 students in 100 different countries, and a faculty of over 2,500 volunteer teachers, providing bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Computer Science. Their goal for 2011 is to increase the number of students living in Haiti and taking their online classes from 16 to 250.  FATEM is exploring a partnership with them towards the establishment of one of their study centers in the Plateau Central region.

Access to Clean and Potable Water

Nearly 150, 000 people around Mirebalais don't have access to clean, safe drinking water. FATEM’s Access to Clean Water project plans to build 24 water wells – 10 community-based and 14 school-based - so that the community and the schools may access clean water. FATEM will seek partnerships with local grassroots organizations as well as international NGOs that are working in the field of water filtration to ensure that the water coming from those wells is pure and safe for drinking. This project will reduce the number of water-borne diseases and preventable illnesses.

Volunterring

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with FATEM. As President of this wonderful organization, I can tell you that I feel the greatest joy when I envision how we can make the Mirebalais region regain its beauty by repairing the roads, implementing a computer lab for the community (especially the children), cleaning the streets, creating jobs for its residents, implementing a drop-in center for senior citizens where they can come and spend time together while getting their blood pressure checked, for example. We can accomplish a lot for the region, and this is your chance to be a part of this great initiative. Please join us in making these dreams become reality. I urge you to consider becoming a FATEM volunteer. Please call us at 866-98-FATEM, or e-mail us at This email address is being protected from spambots.
