Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Foundation for the Technological and Economic Advancement of Mirebalais (FATEM).
FATEM is a dynamic new organization dedicated to the technological and socioeconomic advancement of Mirebalais and its surroundings. The foundation is dedicated to promoting development both at the individual and societal level.
We, at FATEM, are convinced that the perennial challenges facing Haiti can be successfully overcome with a genuine commitment to positive change, integrity of purpose, and the promotion of bold and far-reaching developmental programs commensurate to the depth of the socioeconomic and political malaise confronting Haiti.
No established institutions or officeholder, either in the public or private sphere, can, in and of themselves, successfully tackle the problems of Haiti; but when Haitians are inspired and mobilized, whereby thousands of hands are put to the plough, light work can be made of any heavy or complex burden. Haitians of goodwill everywhere can band together to become promoters and advocates for the myriad communities and small towns across Haiti. We, in the FATEM community, seek to set such an example. This can-do spirit of personal responsibility and accountability, and a practical optimism can serve as a powerful catalyst for positive change. Such sense of renewed commitment would be a welcome change from the condition of a deficient public sector, a disempowered populace, institutional paralysis, cronyism, absence of vision and failure of leadership that have led to the near-collapse of the socioeconomic order in Haiti.
Furthermore, the long-standing systemic failure and endemic regression in Haiti may have more to do with the misguided adoption of mismatched priorities, the imposition of a not-so-benign neglect, the habitual implementation of short-term, superficial quick fixes and half-measures to palliate the prevailing crises of the hour rather than the consequences of intractable and insoluble problems reflecting Haiti’s conundrum. This nuanced understanding could represent an important shift in perception and outlook on Haiti and its problems that may give rise to renewed hope and opportunity to do it right the next time around and usher in a future of great promise for Haiti. Mirebalais is FATEM’s initial point of reference. And we remain committed to promote this new approach on behalf of its citizens.
In closing, I wish to underscore FATEM’s core values. They are: INTEGRITY, COMMITMENT, EXCELLENCE, ACCOUNTABILITY, EMPOWERMENT, and INNOVATION. Your encouragement, support, and participation will complement the dedication of the men and women of FATEM. We consider all these attributes to be among our most valuable assets, for they are vital to the successful execution of our mission.
